Predicting Future Pipeline Behaviour by Pipeline Modeling

Lecture

While usual SCADA and monitoring software gives an overview about the current operation and situation of a pipeline, they do not provide the possibility to show what happens next. The online seminar explains how pipeline modeling can be used to predict the future pipeline behavior for the next hours and even up to several days. Furthermore it will be shown how the forecasting benefits pipeline operation and maintenance activities. Finally a real example will be presented of how predictive modeling is set up on a gas pipeline network and how it is practically used to improve pipeline operation.

Key Takeaways

  • Pipeline Modeling and how it can help to predict the future
  • Application of Online Monitoring and Predictive Modeling
  • Simulation of future operation behavior

KROHNE Oil & Gas BV, Head of Research & Development for PipePatrol & the Leak Detection System

Kai Brünenberg is heading the Research & Development activities of PipePatrol, the Leak Detection System of KROHNE Oil & Gas BV since 2012.

Kai received a master degree in physics (Dipl.-Phys.) from the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany in 1998 with a strong focus on neural networks and computational intelligence. Following Kai stayed for 2 years as a member of the research staff at the “Institute für Neuroinformatik” in Bochum.

From 2000 to 2009 Kai worked in the field of face-recognition technology where he participated in the development of high-end security and biometric applications.

Prior to coming to KROHNE Kai held a senior developers position within the automotive industry where he implemented a system for the measurement of tread depths of tires using methods of pattern analysis and machine learning.

Today Kai’s responsibilities at KROHNE include evaluation of new technologies, implementation of innovative products and features for the pipeline business and also quality assurance always considering the customer’s needs.
